Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2010

A sensational chance to delight the senses with exquisite cuisine and fine wine, the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2010 is the largest of its kind anywhere in the world. This annual festival presents a dining extravaganza that lasts 10 days.

Despite its name the Melbourne Food and Wine festival isn’t actually a festival in the conventional sense. During the month of March many of Melbourne’s restaurants (over 100) will begin to offer special menus to mark the occasion.

But dining in the many restaurants is only the surface of the offerings that can be found here. Other activities that can be indulged in include a huge food market, cookery master classes and chats with World Class Chefs. The latter is possible due to the incredible buzz the event generates that attracts culinary talent from around the world.

The Hawkers Market is an extremely popular part of the fair each year and presents visitors with a strong offering of Asian cuisine. But further adding to the market’s charm are the decorations that help set the mood including Chinese styled lanterns.

Various other special events will also take place during the festival catering to different food related themes further adding to the experience. One thing is for certain, travellers visiting the city during the festival will not find a shortage of delectable cuisine in which to indulge in.

Another popular event is the “Worlds Longest Lunch” is an impressively ‘long’ dining experience. This length does not stem from the duration of the meal but rather the length of the table. Travellers can book a seat at this 1,000 seat dining affair that places in Chinatown whilst indulging in a fine three course lunch.
